The New Year is a great time to start fresh, clean, and reorganize your life. Although my husband Tony and I to keep a pretty clean home the majority of the time, there is nothing like a deep clean or reorganization that can give you life again. In our house, we don’t have a pantry so we have designated part of our cabinet space for food only. Over time, it got unorganized and so I decided to clean it up a bit. So here is a quick post on our new “pantry” organization and what I did to clean it up while spending no money!
Now, I love a good instagram account that shows everything in color order, all in bins, and labeled but since I don’t plan on buying things based on color, I wanted a system that was actually sustainable and reachable. Second, I spent $0 on this organization project. Granted, I had these bins before but weren’t using them to their fullest. Quick tip- I love heading to TJ Maxx and Marshalls for clear bins for organization. They are often 50% of the price of Bed Bath and Beyond and are the same products! They keep things fresh, look more organized, and are so worth it.
Here’s a good before and after of our pantry organization:
The first step was to remove everything so I could take inventory, get rid of unhealthy or unwanted foods, clean the shelves, and organize by types of food. I also took things out of boxes so I could see how much we had while giving it a cleaner look.
Second, I then decided what I wanted on each shelf depending on how much we use it and used my previously used bins to label the correct food. Once I unboxed things, I wanted to include instructions on the bin or wrote them with a white chalk marker to keep it clear where things should go. For things like quinoa that require the correct water/quinoa ratio, I wrote the ratio on the bin.
I love using these Good Grip bins because they have a big click button on the top that seals in freshness and is clear so you can see what is inside them. Like I said, I’ll link them here but head to your local TJ Maxx or Marshalls first to see if they have them at a discount. They might!
Once I got everything cleaned up, I then started placing them around to find what fit well where and the best combinations for an organized looking pantry. It might not be perfect by any means but it looks much better than it did before and might help us eat what we have without overbuying!
I hope this gives you a little New Years Resolution inspiration to either grab some new containers and reorganize or do what I did a try it on a $0 budget! I felt great cleaning things up as well as not spending money on it when we already had great tools to keep things organized. Good luck and tag me on instagram or facebook if you decide to do the same!
Happy New Year everyone! 2019 is going to be a wonderful one!
