This has been a moment I’ve been waiting for about a year to share with you. To be completely honest, I hesitated to share this decorating “reveal” with you because in my mind, a room is never “done”. I redecorate constantly. Although my husband may not love the idea, I feel thats how our entire house will be. Its an evolving space that reflects my passion for decorating and designing. It started with the vision of a bright white kitchen with a modern farmhouse style and evolved into something I can say is completely our own style. With that being said, here is the kitchen reveal of our semi-custom built home. The kitchen is my favorite place in the entire home and there was a lot of thought and love put into making it a special place.
Its all in the details
When I really look at my favorite parts of the kitchen, its the small details that you may not notice right away. The gorgeous brass hardware that I fought for (yes I mean fought – I may have bought them on my own and left them at the construction site…) and the glass and wood pendants that just perfectly put a dash of color in the bright white kitchen. The time I spent measuring, checking, remeasuring, while having Tony stand on a box with pendants in hand (husband of the year) was all worth the beautiful, yet understated statement they make in the room.
Cabinet Design
I wasn’t aware before the building process began how passionate I could feel about cabinets. Designing the kitchen was my favorite part and I really did make good friends at the SK Cabinetry and Design studio. I went many many times to mix and match samples of hardware, cabinet types and color, and countertops. It was at the studio that I was able to select this gorgeous warm gray island with bead board siding. I loved the idea of adding texture to the island in a subtle way and adding a bit of color to the otherwise white kitchen. Adding the bead board also allowed me to add legs to the island that I am absolutely obsessed with. From the color to the quality soft close drawers, I love every piece of this kitchen. When it came to the style of cabinet doors, we choose to change up the look within the kitchen to add texture and to give some visual interest. On the island we went with more traditional doors while we stayed with a more modern, streamlined look for the doors in the rest of the kitchen. Although this is a detail you might not notice at first, its one of my favorites. Its the small details that give our kitchen a unique look. Decorating the Space
When decorating the kitchen, I go with a less is more approach. I realize that I’m a happier person when I have less clutter around and the pieces I have are functional. As a candle addict, it is difficult to not have one in every space of the house. With the majority of the kitchen being white and light gray, I wanted to add warmth through the wood tones of the cutting board (yes I said functional) and the tray that sits in the middle of the island. Sometimes the island changes but this antique tray always seems to come back.
